Richard Huettl’s business philosophy is based on three core principles; honesty, integrity, and character. These principles are of the utmost importance to him when counseling clients. Richard understands his distinction from most other attorneys’ and he attributes this to his unique background. Having grown up in South Dakota and having lived in Japan as an exchange student, Richard brings a unique set of values and perspective to every client matter.
Richard applies his core principles when advising start-up and established businesses about choosing an appropriate business form, resolving regulatory compliance issues, negotiating complex or simple business or real estate transactions and in all other areas of practice. His broad background in business, risk management, and insurance law gives him the perspective and experience to solve (and in many cases avoid) legal problems. He finds that sometimes the best solution ends up being a non-legal solution.
Richard believes that every client deserves a customized estate plan. He gets to know each client; their goals, dreams and understands that every family’s aspirations are different. Richard recognizes that each estate plan must reflect the client’s individual values. He appreciates his client’s values and is willing to have extended meetings to determine the most suitable estate plan for each client. As a result, Richard has established a boutique law firm which reflects these explicit aspirations for his clientele.
Experience
Richard Huettl is licensed to practice law in California, the District of Columbia, and South Dakota. Richard has practiced as a sole practitioner and was the founding member of a Limited Liability Partnership for almost two years before he returned to a sole practitioner. Richard’s practice emphasizes estate planning, trust administration, probate, tax planning and all other estate related matters. Richard’s practice is not limited to these areas as he also advises his clients on business and family matters. Richard finds that if the case interests him and he believes in the client, then he is willing to take on matters in other areas of the law as well.
Richard has an inherent entrepreneurial spirit. He worked his way through college in South Dakota with various jobs ranging from construction, demolition, semi truck driving, and operating a student summer camp for Black Hills State University. Prior to establishing his law practice, Richard ran a successful family oriented Insurance Agency. Richard’s clients benefit from his entrepreneurial background and abundance of business knowledge from his years of real-world experience.
Education
Richard Huettl earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Sociology from Black Hills State University in South Dakota. Richard earned his Juris Doctorate (Law Degree/JD) from Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law in Orange, California.
Richard and his partner won the American Bar Association National Client Counseling Championship and represented the United States in the International Client Counseling Competition while in Law School. The following year, Richard was the only law student in the Nation selected as National Student Director for the Client Counseling Program with the American Bar Association. Richard was granted Chapman Law School’s prestigious Professionalism Award upon graduation.
